Sand the hinge pin lightly with medium 120 grit sandpaper to remove any rust and wipe off any sanding dust.

After your hinge pins are cleaned use oil or melted wax to evenly cover the hinge pins. Next apply a thin coat of lubricant to the hinge pin and the hinge itself and put the pin back in the hinge. Then wipe any dirt and grease off the pin and hinge plates with a paper towel or an old rag.
